WordRafts is a small independent word game made in Brisbane, Australia. The game code, artwork, name and rules are © 2026 James Green. The word list and the definitions shown on scorecards are built from the open resources below, which have their own licences; the bundle as a whole is not public domain.
Accepted words (3–10 letters, 52,307 of them) are derived from Alan Beale's 12dicts 6.0.2 (3of6game), with whole-word filtering of slurs and profanity. Letter rarity scores come from how often each letter appears in that list. 12dicts is placed in the public domain by its author.
Scorecard definitions come from three sources, each marked beside the meaning in the game:
WordNet 3.0 — 48,914 entries. Copyright 2006 by Princeton University. All rights reserved. Used under the WordNet 3.0 licence, reproduced below. WordNet is a registered trademark of Princeton University.
Open English Wordnet 2025 — 386 entries. © the Open English Wordnet Community, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Source: en-word.net.
Wiktionary — 2,997 entries by Wiktionary contributors, extracted via Kaikki.org / Wiktextract, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Changes made: meanings selected and shortened, usage labels kept, reference chains linked to base definitions, examples omitted. Ten further brief explanations are original to WordRafts.
Share-alike. Because the Wiktionary-derived material is CC BY-SA, the supplementary glossary that contains it is itself published under CC BY-SA 4.0. You may download it here: definitions-supplement.js (JSON inside a JavaScript wrapper; the licence text is embedded). The WordNet-derived file is definitions.js, under the WordNet licence.
